Slough is a town in the Thames Valley, England. It is located 10 miles (16 km) west-southwest of London Heathrow Airport and 8 miles (13 km) east of Reading, Berkshire.
Slough Borough Council administers the town, which has an estimated population of 69,800 inhabitants. Slough was first mentioned in 886 AD as a village on the River Thames. It was once famous for its production of textiles but now mainly produces cars and computers under the name “Silicon Fen”.
The Slough House is a Grade II listed building. It is a private residence, and it’s located in the town of Slough in Berkshire, England.
John Pinching built it in 1764 for his wife Mary as their country house when they moved from London to Berkshire.
The couple lived there until 1813 when they sold the house to Sir William Gifford who sold it again 10 years later to James Maxwell who converted it into a hotel called “The Star Hotel”. In 1861 Henry Edward Hawley bought The Star Hotel and renamed it “The Royal Oak” after his wife Charlotte’s favorite tree at home (he also changed its name back).
